What kind of Sprint Squad are we building?

Guide to Competition Preparation

Exact session details will be announced each time we meet, but the session options below give an idea of what to expect.

Training - Spring 2008

Objectives:

This phase of our training is all about making the most of the strength, endurance and technique gains made over the winter. Our primary objective is to generate our first 'peak' for the County Championships on May the 11th. We will focus on race or jump execution, mental preparation and, of course, speed, speed, speed.

2008 Spring Training Plan - Sprint Squad

We will be working on various technical skills like starting, relay changes, long jump/triple jump phases and timing, hurdling... In addition to these technical skills, we will be using the hills and our bungies to do some overspeed running. Our parachutes and bungies will help develop the explosive power we need over the first 30m.

In the end, we all need to be able to deliver our best performances on race day, so everyone in the squad is encouraged to take what opportunities there are to race or jump competitively before the season gets into full swing. The Fixtures page lists all the key competitions and some extra competition opportunities, as does the plan above. You learn from every race and every jump, so get out and do it.
