Sunday 15th June at Jarman Park, Hemel Hempstead, saw us come 4th overall out of 7 competing teams at our third (2 left to go) EYAL athletics match of the outdoor season. The first two matches we came 3rd each time so we do need to keep working at this.
We fielded a relatively large team (60+ athletes) in spite of several match headwinds, including important school exams for some, Duke-of-Edinburgh events for some Y10s and not forgetting it was Father’s day!
We are still challenged with getting a full middle distance team out to these athletic matches - in particular our U13 boys team, where unfortunately we didn't manage to get any representation at all in the 800m or the 1500m races. The same could not be said for U13 girls who challenged BRILLIANTLY in all their middle distance events, as did the U15 Boys with stand-out performances from many.
A special thank you to those parents who helped on the day with field and track officiating (these events can't take place without volunteers helping in these areas) and I do know some of you had a lot on, on this day and yet still managed to fit this help in - thank you.
Remember that after our 5 matches are completed in August, all the points will be added up and the top 12 clubs (out of 30 clubs taking part overall) will get to compete in the finals – we scrapped through to the finals last year, and we are very close again this year, so we really need to get a full team out at the remaining two matches.
Our next EYAL match (round 4) is Sunday 13th July in Basildon – more details to follow ahead of the date.
