A big push from everyone involved meant we pushed past Thurrrock (we had to beat Thurrock on the day in order to qualify for the finals) by some 30 points by the half way stage and finished the day 60 odd points ahead of them to come 3rd overall on the day out of the 7 competing clubs. Many will remember that this time last year we scraped though to the plate finals of this league - and then went on to win the final in September!
All the age categories did us proud on the day - and as has been the trend all season our U13 girls stood out with their impressive numbers and with their enthusiasm - all this in spite of the summer holidays depriving us of many of our regular athletes. We managed to pull together a reasonable size squad (around 35 athletes) in spite of the holiday season; this number included quite a few new first timers, who's help with the overall points scored on the day, was really appreciated and helped us reach the finals - thanks to every single athlete who took part and made this the success that it was in reaching the finals.
We were desperate for field officials at this match - you know we're short when both Tim Higman and Chris James have to muck-in and take turns in officiating field events - Chris officiating High Jump and Tim (yes that's right, Tim Higman) officiating the Shot Put); several parents did a stint (or 2) in helping out in the field events and our "Mr reliable" Phil Yaxley turned up (as always) and took care of business as track judge on the day - thanks for your once again Philip.
Our next EYAL match (Plate Final) is Sunday 7th September – further details will follow
