Parliament Hill Fields didn’t disappoint with its usual array of challenges and mud like you’ve never seen before!! A little bit of a shock to the new XC runners but a slight smile on the faces of our more experienced as they looked forward to conquering the mud bath!!
Frankie Durbin made it a clear sweep having taken part in all the Championship and league races in her first season taking part in the under 20 race.
Oliver Poulain coming down from Warwick uni, Jacob Hine and Jamie Abbiss raced in the under 20 men.
We had full teams in the remaining 3 age groups for the girls. Our under 17’s finishing the nationals in 10th position with Tabitha Weddell having a great run to finish in 62nd place followed home by Lauren Eckley( 132),Alex Bentley(164), Jessica Barnes (185),Orla Schatzlein,Georgia Robin and Naomi Baker. The under 15 Girls were 25th , Freya Weddell (149),Hannah Rayden(156)Emily Anders (166) and Caitlin Eckley (227)
Keira Stern led our under 13 girls home in 41st place attacking the hills and the mud . She was followed by Sophie Robin (162) Demi Tuinema(174)and Bea Towers in (368) out of a field of nearly 450 the largest of the young athletes races.
For St Albans AC Boys Henry Jones came in 227 out of 395 under 13 boys this was his first National Championships. Callum Walsh had a great run to lead the under 15 boys into 35th position in 135th place. He was followed by Rowan Daly,Cameron Clark and Andrew Shaw.
Ben Clarke finished the under 17 race in 82nd place, Edward Anders loving the mud (233)and Andrew Doherty(243) completing our team.
The Nationals are arguably the pinnacle of the Cross Country calendar attracting the best in the country over this gruelling and historical course in London. All our athletes did St Albans and district proud ,wearing their blue and yellow vests over the mud of Parliament hills!!
