St Albans athletic club endurance athletes enjoyed a beautiful winters day not shopping but doing the best that you can do on the cross country circuit!!
We were a little short in the younger age groups with school christmas fairs but still had some great performances. The courses skirting round playing fields and the golf course with an interesting ploughed field and a detour to make you think you were going to embark on a bit of road running. Nothing quite as challenging as the water jump of the last months race!! in the under 11 age groups we had 7 in total with Ants Jubb and Morgan Hume are highest placed runners.
The under 13 age groups delivered our highest placed individual with Keira Stern taking 5th place finishing very strongly . Scott Brice finished 9th in the boys race , Stefan Martin on his debut finished 18th with Matthew Stevens, Jack Nicholson and William Hack making up the team.
It was the under 15 boys who outshone their female counterparts as far as numbers were concerned this week. With all but one of the boys from Verulam so the moral of the story is lets get the schools involved to help St Albans AC take on the big clubs!! Callum Walsh came in 13th, Oliver 27th and Jed Lumb 35th. Jess Laitner was 11th, Freya Weddell 13th and Emily Anders 34th.
Ben Clarke led the under 17's in in 6th place and with the Hertfordshire XC Champs taking place next month he will be hoping for a good position in the county. The boys team was completed with Ed Edward Anders, Hugh Thomas and Andrew Doughty.
In the under 17/20 women again we had 10 athletes and Tabitha Weddell was our highest placed athlete in 13th place with Rachel Parlour, Naomi Baker and Orla Schatzlein all holding their team positions.
We had a complete team in under 20 men Michael Carr Carr 11th, Jacob Hine 18th and Sam Jones 22nd (not bad for our 3rd ranked 100m athlete) they coped admirably with an over distance 10km cross country!!
